old diplomacy has become outmoded?

Diplomacy dated back 2500 BC participated in the social affairs. Since then is has evolved and emerged with a new shape in different times in history. Modern time has witnessed immense development in mankind in every sector. Now the world has more defined boundaries of the sates and also they are going towards another complication because of the globalisation that threatening the territorial boundaries. Globalisation and technology has advanced in such a pace that it is very normal that the states and societies taking the most out of it. as a result the whole international affairs taking different direction since 18th centaury. Now to discuss the question has old or traditional diplomacy become outmoded i would look into the fundamental objectives of diplomacy and the process and structure of diplomacy in the new word order.

New diplomacy emerged with new slogan of openness and also driven global diplomacy into a united platform. That gave birth to parliamentary diplomacy, summit diplomacy and so on. Here the objective of a state has not changed a lot from the old diplomacy, although the venue and new dynamics made the diplomacy to adapt into a more multilateral aproach. However the traditional diplomacy’s bilateral emphasis cannot be ignored at all even in this present time. The diplomatic relation between United States and United Kingdom is a example of bilateral diplomacy. And by all means it can be said that this two countries diplomatic relations determining the word affairs significantly.

Although new technology has enabled the embassies’ and countries foreign ministry’s to communicate with each other within a very short period time, the orthodox style of meeting and the physical presence still very important. Yes they can exchange information and have formal discussion on telephone or video conference but to actually pay 100% attention to the crisis the leaders still need to move physically and address the parties. Only the timing has changed. Where as before it took those days to pass the distant to reach certain destination and now they can fly within hours. it can be said that new diplomacy has been blessed by the new invention of technology and scientific development but nevertheless it paced the traditional diplomatic process. Even today the officials need to be on the spot on the occasions and fulfil the ceremonial events. So to say old diplomacy has become outmoded will be irrational. Rather I would say the old diplomacy has embraced a new mode and still very much a big part within the new diplomacy.
